How many pages are there on the internet? A qualified guess is “very many!”, with more and more being created every day. So how can you stand out from the crowd, and what do you have to do for your website to be visible?
The problem does not lie in whether the page is nice or not, or even in how well it converts. It often happens that even visitors have a hard time finding a website. Thomas Jönsson from Adveriser has worked with internet marketing and SEO since 2004 and knows how to be seen in this digital jungle.
The internet is a big place. A very big place. The old business adage “if you are not visible, you don’t exist” is undeniably as relevant today as it was yesterday. However, there seems to be a general perception that it is the page’s appearance that matters most when looking at how effective a website is. Although appearance matters, there are many more underlying factors that affect how visible your page is and how many visitors you will get.
“There are a couple of important measures you can take to improve the visibility of your page”, says Thomas Jönsson. As an expert in internet marketing, Google Ads, web optimization, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and website building, he is one of the most knowledgeable people in the field.
Many of these measures are easy to implement. For example, customers or visitors like to have a security factor – an external party that validates the site. It can be, for example, ratings or reviews, but it can also be a certification of some kind, or a credit rating. A security factor makes the visitor feel a little more secure on your site. “You also benefit from offering open purchase. Sales increase and the revenue is usually higher than the cost of the returned items”, says Thomas. He believes that this is also a good security factor for customers.
One of the best ways to market your site is through newsletters, as these have a high conversion rate. It is very important for the newsletters to sound more entertaining and educational than commercial when promoting your services or products. Newsletters are also a great way to experiment with your marketing to see what sells the most.
According to Thomas, it is also important to create a good landing page. “Never link to your main page. If you sell white men’s shoes, you can create a good landing page where your visitors will be taken when they Google.” Make sure that your landing page is specific. If, for example, you sell many pairs of white shoes for men, create a landing page for this specific search term.
Under the hood: SEO & SEM for internet marketing
For your site to have any result at all, first your visitors must find it. 75% of all purchases start with a Google search. That is why it is very important to be visible even in this stage. There are also a few important points you must keep in mind when optimizing your site for search engines. Your first and best step is to start using Google’s free tools to collect data right now. “Use Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools to start collecting data about your site as early as possible,” says Thomas.
SEM or Search Engine Marketing is the part where you can use ads on Google to influence your target audience. To get the best value out of SEM, it is important, just like with SEO, to optimize properly. Large amounts of money are spent on Google’s advertising system Google Ads in Sweden every year.
The advantages of SEM include reaching your specific target audience and controlling how much money you will spend on marketing. Do not forget to create a so-called CTA (call to action) such as “Buy now!” or “Limited availability” on your page, as this has proven positive effects for your internet marketing.
